GALVESTON, TEXAS, July 13.-Specials
from Columbus, Texas, say the Colorado
Bi ver is higher than ever known. The
water rose forty-seven feet, but it is now
falling slowly. Wheat Valley is entirely
under water, and the crops have been
destroyed. The railroad betweon Altrion
and Columbus was washed away for
several hundred yards, and badly da?
maged. A number of persons were drown?
ed below Columbus. Altrion is six feet
under water, and dead bodies have been
seen floating past there. At LaGrange,
the water is still four feet on the publio
square. It is rumored that Bastrop and
Webberville are washed away and many
lives lost. The latter town is situated
on lower lands than LaGrange. Tho
Brazos is very high and still rising.
