In 186-, a young mau by the name of
Sharpe-Jacob Sharpe-afterwards of
Columbus, Miss., was reading law with
Stephen F. Halo, in Eutaw. Just after
nebad finished his course and boon ad?
mitted to the bar, he fell u victim to a
severe revival that occurred in the Me?
thodist Church of the town aforesaid.
Being a young man of brilliant parts
and zealous in the work, the revival waa
not over before the older members bad
Jake well broken in. Scarcely a meeting
passed at which Jake was .not called on
: to pray in public; and right well be bore
bis part. One evening, when the inte?
rest was at fever heat, and the tears and
groans of the mourning multitude could
e seen and heard on every hand. Jake
was asked to "lead in prayer." He
complied, of course; and in the midst of
his petition, vociferated: "Oh, Lord!
call baek tby wandering sheep. Inspire
sinners with a horror of sin. Enable
them, we pray Thee, to preseut their pe?
titions at the Throne of Qrace before
they are forever barred by the statutes of
limitation!"
It was sometime afterward ero Jake
had heard the last of pleading the statute
of limitation against the sinner.
