NEW ORLEANS, May 18.-Information has
been received of a break in the grand levee
inj^ho Parish of pointe Coupee, half a mile
aboyo tho new work, which has just been
completed. It was n break just closed at
great expense, which flooded so large a por?
tion'of West Louisiana during tho last two \
years. Tho break just reported, however,
is said not to involve such great danger, as
the levee is some distance from the river's
edge, and the water at the break only six
feet deep. The break is reported at 150
yards wide, but from tho high stago of the
water, it will be difficult, if not impossible,
to olose it. The Villere crevasse, in St.
Bernard Parish, has been abaudoned as
hopeless. The break is now several hun-1
dred fe?t wide, and the great depth of water
is sweeping uninterrupted back to the lake.

Methodist clergy to-day, .a resolution was
passed, protesting agaiust decorating sol?
