Fish, announcing his withdrawal and giving
an account of a friendly farewell with the

NEW YORK, May 15.-In Brooklyn, this |
morning, nt 2 o'clock, a young man named
Samuel D. Talbot, lately of Boston, at?
tempted the lifo of a young lady who had
rejected his suit, and afterwards killod him?
self. It appears thnt be first obtained access
to the bed-room of Miss Scribner, who,
some time since, rejected his proposal of
marriage, and attempted to outrage ber,
but she awoke, strongly resisted bim, broko j
away and fled from the chamber. Talbot |
then ran to another room, obtained a re?
volver, and went to the other room in which
Miss Scribner hnd takeu refuge, and fired
at her, the ball grazing ber temple and
lodging in tho wall. Ho fired again, the
ball passing through ber loft hand and
buried itself in ber wrist, from whence it
has since been extracted. Talbot then
rushed to his own room, placed tho pistol to
his head and blew out bis brains. The in?
mates thought burglars were in tho house.
Talbot's body was sent to his relatives in
Boston.
