j A young couple, engaged to be married,
.were walking in the vicinity of Bristol, Eng?
land, when some slight disagreement arose
between them, and the yonng man walked
hastily away. The yonng woman soon went
in searoh of him, and found that he had
climbed a tree and hanged himself by his
handkerchief. Nobody was near the spot,
and the girl at once climbed the tree and cut
her lover down; but she had no knife with
her, and the only way by which she could !
effect her objeot, was by biting through the
knotted handkerchief. This, with somo
difficulty, she succeeded in doing, and the
foolish boy fell on tho ground insensible.
The young woman then succeeded in geV
ting assistance, and he was taken to tho
Bristol Infirmary, whore he is lying in a
very precarious condition.
There was a large crowd at Barnwell
Court House, on* sales-day. Considerable
property was disposed of by the Sheriff and
Clerk, and a number of tracts of land be?
longing to George Hoffman, by his assignee,
Frederiok J. Smith, Esq., of Charleston.
