GREAT SNOW STORM.-On the 17th inst., the Legislatur o at Quebec, Canada, had to adjeurn, in oonsequenoo of a heavy snow storm, which stopped tho trains, and pre? vented the arrival of a quorum. Tbe snow in the streets was eight feet deep, rendering them almost impassable. --o OUTRAGEOUS.-Advices from Harlin County, Ey., state that an armed party, headed by Lige Baker and others, hos been committing depredations in the neighbor? hood of Mount Pleasant. Peaceable citi? zens have been driven from their homes, and a few days since a party met Mr. David Middleton on the road, and shot him to pieces. -o MONEY Fon THE SOUTH.-Mr. Forney, in his Washington Chronicle, publishes an elaborate letter upon the subject of the excess of money at tho North, and the fine fields for investment at the South. Commenting upon the tables he quotes, he says: "Here, apart from tho picture of the prosperity of the working classes of tho North, stands the fact that t hero are nearly 300.000,000 of money on deposit iu a part of the savings banks of only eight of the old States-a fund which, it is truly said, is only waiting for perfect security for invest? ment in the South to be transferred, the most of it, to that moro profitable field of labor. These are tho classes who are to build up and restore that interesting sec? tion, even as they build up and enrich themselves. " -o A NEW SWINDLING DODOE.-Pretended linns in this city advertise in the country papers to furnish Alaska diamonds, equal in all respects to the genuine article, except in their intrinsic value. They request that when rings are ordered, a ring already pos? sessed by the owner may be sent them, in order that the size of tho finger may be as? certained. On receipt of tho specimen, they forward their trash by express, to be ? collected for on delivery. If tho specimen ring should be worthless, they include it in the parcel, but, if it should happen to be valuable, they ?etain it, and any attempt on the part of the loser to regain his property, proves fruitless, inasmuch as no firms with the title they give, are to be found at the address given. A case comes under notice from a correspondent of the jewelry firm of Messrs. Browne & Spaulding, at Lexington, ? Ey.i of certain individuals, styling them-1 Bel vea "James T. Monroe & Co., Importers and Manufacturers, No. 195 Broadway," who obtained a ring in the above manner, worth several dollars, of a lady in that place. They obtained $12.00 for the Alaska "diamonds" forwarded to her, but did not return the property sent. As no snob firm is to be found at 105 Broadway, tho pros? pects of the lady for obtaining her ring are indifferent.-New York Times. -o A STARTLING INSTANCE OK THE JUSTICE OK HEAVEN.-The retributive justice of Heaven has never been more dearly shown or exem? plified than in the fate of the judge and jury who acquitted tho murderer of the la? mented Bolmeyer. The circumstances surrounding the case are too well known to justify a rehearsal at this time. Briefly, a brutal beast, bearing the name of Brown, in cold blood and with? out the slightest provocation, assassinated Bolmeyer, on a public street in Dayton, in broad daylight, in tho presence of nnuerous witnesses, for the only reason that Bolmeyer was the editor-in-chief of the Dayton Em? pire, a Democratic paper. Brown, being fearful of the just indignation of the people of Montgomery County, prayed for a change of venue, had his ease transferred to the loyal County of Miami; after a mock trial, was ncquitted by a jury organized for that purpose, by a loyal court and sheriff, not? withstanding the proof of guilt was incon? testable and overwhelming. This was tho judgmont of man. Now witness tho judg? ment of Almighty Godl Every juryman on that pannol that acquitted Brown of the murder of Bolmeyer, has since been beroft of reason, mot unnatural death, or commit? ted suicide, and as a fitting cap-stone to this arch of retributive justice, Judgo Par? sons, who presided over the mock trial, died a few days since, a horrible death in the Lunatic Asylum at Dayton. Verily, those .who "sow tho wind, shall reap' the whirl? wind."-[Bucyrus ( Ohio) Forum. The Now York World publishes the details of a confession, said to have boen mado by Charles Jeffords to a detective, proving that he (Jefferys) was tho actual murderer of Dr. Burdell, in 1857. Jeffords was convicted of the murder of Walton and Matthews, in 1868, but the sentence of death was never carried into execution. JeiTerds Vas him solf killed in Sing-Sing, a few months since, by a fellow-convict, now awaiting trial for murder. Tho confession was made several years since, and is now, for the first time, given to the public. -o MURDEH AND SUICIDE.-On tho 17th, at Lexington, Kentucky, John W.
