WASHINGTON, February 18.-lu tho Se? nate, during the discussion of the amend? ment, last night, Salisbury said if God had been aa wiso as the radical party, and hud their experience, he would have made all men alike, and thon all this trouble would have been avoided. The Senate is disctissiug the payment of Southern Senators for tho full term. Thc Judio'ary Committee reported adversely to Sawyer's bill, extending time for bringing snit in the Court of Claims for captured and abandoned property. Thc Senate fiually adopted the amendment as originally re? ported by the Senate Judiciary Committee, simply declaring tho right of citizens of the United States to vote and hold office shall not bo denied or abridged by any State or the United States, on account of race, color or previous condition, and gives to Con? gress tho enforcing power. Tho consideration of the payment of tho Southern Senators was postponed. Indian appropriations were considered till execu? tive session. The Naval Committee report? ed favorably on the House bill regarding captures made by Farragut's fleet in tho Mississippi. Kellogg reported a bill making the New Orleans, Mobilo aud Chat? tanooga Railroad, hereafter to bo extended Westward from New Orleans, a post road. Recess. In the House, the Election Committee reported against Hamilton claiming his seat as Representative for the State at large, for Tennessee. The bank and currency bill was passed. Boutwell, from tho Recon? struction Committee, stated that they bad abandoned the bill recognizing the State of Mississippi at this time, for more pressing business. The bill will be presented imme mediately after the 4th of March. The Senate Committee on Foreign Af? fairs declared against thc ratification of the Alabama treaty. When tho pure medicinal restorative, now so ; widely known as Wolfe's SC HI KD A M SCHNAPPS, was introduced into tho world, under Ibo endorac ' ment of 4,000 leaning members of the raedieal pro? fession, somo twenty years ayo, ?B proprietor waa well aware that it could not wholly escapo tho penalty attached to new and useful preparations. He, therefore, endeavored to invest it with the strongest possible safeguard against counterfeit? ers, and to render all attempts to pirate it difficult and dangerous, lt was submitted to distinguish od chemists for analysis, and pronounced by them tho purest spirit ever manufactured. Its purity and properties haviug been thus ascertained, samples of the article were forwarded to 10.000 ph'scians, including all the loadiug practitioners m tho United States, for purposes of experiment. A circular, requesting a trial of thu preparation and a report of the result, accompanied each specimen. 4,000 of thu most eminent medical men in the Union promptly responded. Their opinions of tho article wore unanimously favorable. Such a preparation, they said, had long been wanted by the profession, as no reliance could bo placed on the ordinary liquors of commerce; all of which woro moro or less adulterated, and, therefore, unfit for medical purposes. The peculiar excel? lence aud strength of thc oil of juniper, which formed ono of the principal ingredients of the Schnapps, together with an unalloyed character o? the alcoholic element, give it, in tho estimation of the faculty, a marked superiority over every other diffuaivo stimulant as a diuretic, tonie and restorative. These satisfactory credentials from professional men of tho highest rank were published in a condensed form, and enclosed with each bottle ot the Schnapps, as one of the guarantees of its genuineness. Other precautions against fraud wero also adopted; a patent was obtained for the article, the label was copyrighted, m fae eimile nf thc proprietor's autograph signature was attached to each label and cover, his nann- and that of the preparation were embossed on the bottles, and the corks were sealed with his private seal. No article had ever been sold in thia country tinder tim name of Schnapps prior to the introduction of Wolfe'? Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps, in 1851; and the label was deposited, us li in trade mark, in the United States District Court fur the Southern Dis? trict of New York during that year. It might oe supposed, ny persons unacquainted with the daring character <>f tho pirates wno prey upon the reputation of honorable merchants, by vending deleterious trash under their name, that tbe protections so carefully thrown around these Schnapps would have precluded the introductions and sale of counterfeit*. They seem, however, only to have stimulated tho rapacity of impostors. Tho trade mark of the proprietor has been stolen; the endorsement which his Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps alone received from the medical pro? fession has been claimed by mendacious humbugs; bis labels an bottles have been imitated, his ad? vertisements paraphrased, his circulars copied, and, worse than all, dishonorable retailers, after disposing of the genuine contents of his bottles, have tilled them up with common gin, tho most deleterious of all liquors, and thus made his name and brand a cover for poison. Tho public, the medical profession and the si. k, for whom the Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps is prescribed as a remedy, are equally interested with thu proprietor in the detection and suppression ot these nefarious practices. Tho genuino article, manufactured at tho establishment of tho under? signed, in Schiedam, Holland, ia distilled from a barley of tho finest quality, and tlavored with an essential extract of the berry of tho Italian juniper, of unequalled purity. By a process un? known in the preparation of any other liquor, it is freed from every acrimonious and corrosive ele? ment. Complaints have been received from the leading physicians and families in the Southern States, of the sale of cheap imitations of the Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps in thoso markets; and travel? ers, who aro in the habit of using it as au antidote to the baneful influence of unwholesome river water, testify that cheap gin, put up in Schiedam bottles, is frequently palmed off upon tho unwary. The agents of the undersigned havo been requested tn institute inquiries on the subject, and to for? ward to him tbe names of such parties as they may ascertain to bo engagod in tho atrocious system of deception. In conclusion, tho under? signed would say that bobas produced, from under tho hands of tho most distinguished men of science in America, proofs unanswerable of tho purity and medicinal excellence of the Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps; that ho has expended many thousand dollars in surrounding it with gnarautees and safeguards, which he desigued should protect tho public and himself against fraudulent imita? tions; that ho bas shown it to bo the only liquor in tho world that can be uniformly depended apon as unadulturated; that he has challenged investi? gation, analysis, comparison, and experiment in all its forms; and from every ordeal tho prepa? ration which bears his name, seal and trado mark, has come off triumphant. He, therefore, feels it a duty he owes to his fellow-citizens generally, to tho* medical profession and tho sick, to denounce and expose tbe Charlataus who counterfeit these evidences of identity, and ho calls upon tho press and the public to aid him in his efforts to remedy so groat an evil. Thu following letters and certificates, from tho loading physicians and chemists of this city, will prove to tho reader that all goods sold by tho undersigned aro all they are represented to bo.
