MASONS AND ODD FELLOWS.-I was taken
all aback, this morning, to And that there
is really an intention on the part of a strong
party among tho radicals in the Senate, to
interfere with the Masons and Odd Fellows.
I was previously aware of a petition having
been presented by Wilson, of Massachu?
setts, soire days ago, looking to some such
movement, but treated it all as of little con?
sequence, lt has now become important to
give the substance of this document. It
sets forth that such secret organizations aro
dangerous to a republican form of govern?
ment; that Masonic societies have directed
their efforts to the support of slavery and
the inception of rebellion; that they teach
the youth of tho country the pernicious
practices of conspiracy; that they are bound
together by barbarous oaths; that their
power is used against a good administration
and for a corrupt one, as is shown by a re?
cent appeal of the Executive to the Knights
Templar of tho North-west and of Boston,
and to the Baltimore Odd Fellows, and that
no trust can bo reposed in any Department
of the Government administered on Ma
sonio principles.

Curan IN NEW YOIIK.-It is asserted by the
New York journals that no similar period of
time has boon so fruitful in daring robbe?
ries and burglaries in that city, as the past
ten days. All the criminals of the country,
it is stated, have made a preconcerted raid
on the metropolis. The audacity and bold?
ness of the robbers and burglars are report?
ed to be unparalleled, and the arrest of any
of their number, it is contended, has appa?
rently no effect in deterring the remainder.
The operations of the law in New York are
ordinarily so slow, that they entertain hopes
of escape, even if so unfortunate as to bo
arrested. The courts aro, therefore, advised
to enforce tho law with vigor, and one Judge
is especially praised for disposing of over
100 eases of felony within three weeks'
time.
