SEC. 15. That an annual tax of fifty dollars sim bo paid upon each and every bagatelle, pool i keelo or billiard-table, and upon every bowlin; saloon, nino or ten-pin alloy, or pistol gallery, a up for public uso-whether used or not- fcc within tho limita of said city; and the sum of $11 ahall bu paid in advanco for a license to koep i havo a cock-pit within the limita of said city; ai no license, for Bach cock-pit ?L??? w granted for (my timo within tho Oneal year, lora leas Bum than $100: Provided, That no person or persons shall open any one of tho places of amusement men? tioned in this section, until ho or they shall have obtained a license for that purpose from tho City Council, and shall have entered into bond, with two or moro good securities, to the Mayor and Aldermen, in the sum of $500, conditioned to ob sorvo tho laws of the State and city, and particu? larly tho laws against retailing. Any person opening Buch establishment within this city, without having first obtained tho licenso and given bond as aforesaid, shall bc eubject to a fino not exceeding fifty dollars for each day euch establishment shall bo kept opened or used; also, that such placo shall bo considered and is hereby declared to bo a nuisance, and liable to bo abated as such. SEC. IC. That each and every tenant or occupant of any real catate, upon whose premises water is brought by pipes, or otherwise, from the city reservoir, shall pay to tho City Clerk, at tho samo time with the other taxes imposed by this ordi? nance, such sum ?is may be asscosod by tho Com? mittee on tho Water Works. And any owner or bis agent, or occupant of any real estate, upon whoso premises water is brought from the city reservoir, failing to make a report of the hydrant or hydrants used by him, her or by any te nant or occupant on such premises, shall ho liable to a fine of doubU: thc amount of tho assessment levied thereon. Each and every express company trans? acting business within thu limits of said city, shall mako quartorly returns ol their gross re? ceipts, and pay one per cent, on tho amount of such returns at tho end of .each quarter. Each and every telegraph company shall, in like man? ner, make quarterly returns of their gross re? ceipts, on which returns bhall bu paid a tax of OUO per cent. BBC. IS. Each and every hotel, priv ito board? ing-house or house of entertainment, receiving transient travelers, and each public eating-house or saloon, shall pay a tax of one-half per cent, upon their gross receipts, to be paid quarterly. Each barber shop shall nay a tax of three dollars for each quarter in advance. All nowspt pera, published in said city, shall pay a tax of one per cent, on their gross receipts, to be paid quarterly. SEC. li). Each and every cotton press and cotton gin, within the corporate limits of said city, shall be required to procuro a license for tho same from Um City Clerk, and shall pay twenty-five dollars per annum in advance. SEC. 20. All persons who Bhall ondoso any streets or part of streets in tho city of Columbia, by and with consent of the Council, shall pay an annual tux of live dollars on any street or part of any street so enclosed, or such oilier price er sum aa may he llxed and determined by tho Council: but each street or part ot any street so enclosed by tho consent of Council, may at any tim? be opened by Ibo or>ler of the said Council, any thing to tho contrary b< rein notwithstanding.
