AUGUSTA, January 9.-4t is reported that tho murderers of Martin and his two sisters, who were murdered, robbed aud buried at his home in Columbia County, a few days since, were taken from the jail at Appling, and lynched, A white man named Andrew Upton and three negroes, who composed the party, confessed the murder of Martin and his sisters and the stealing of $600 in gold, and subsequent burning of the house and bodies, in order to cover their guilt. NEW ORLEANS, January 9.-The funeral of General Rousseau attracted an immense assemblage of citizens, army officers and members of the Legislature. WASHINGTON, January 9.-Mr. Cuthbert, clerk in Judge Busteed's Court, in Ala? bama, testifies to falsifications of the re? cord. The Peabody Educational Committee will meet in Baltimore on Wednesday. Grant will be presen t. Customs receipts from the 21st to the 31st, inclusive, $3,111,000. A white man named William O. Markham, living at Coleyville, New York, concealed himself in his own house yesterday aud de? liberately shot and killed a negro named Enock, who was passing in the street. No reason for the murder is given. The Delaware Legislature met at Dover on Tuesday. The Senate is composed of seven Democrats and two Republicans; the House of twenty-one Democrat; and no Republicans. A very largo cougar, or Mexican lion, was recently shot near Denton, Texas, by Mr. Fry, on whose stock it had made an attack. It had previously killed over 100 cows and calves in the County. Dacotah Territory, gives its women the elective franchise and eligibility to hold office. The Grand Jury, of the District of Co? lumbia, have ignored tho bill of indictment submitted to them against John H. Surratt. A shocking accident occured in Roches? ter. New York, on Wednesday evening, by which eight persons were killed and thirty seriously injured. A floor in the school-house of St. Peter and St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church gave way while it was crowded with people attnndin? the hcli day festival; 300 or moro persons wont downward, and several were instantly killed. The colored citizens of the United States will hold a national convention in the na? tional capital on Wednesday, the 13th inst., to take into consideration all matters effect? ing their new relations to public affairs and their oourse of future nc ti on. Lord Somerville, tho English peer, was recently killed whilst hunting. His horse was ridden at a very stiff and high, quick fence; the animal stumbled, and fell upon the head and face of its rider, who expired in a few minutes afterwards. When the puro medicinal restorative, now so widely knownas Wolfe's SC ll I EDAM SCHNAPPS, was introduced into tlio world, under the endorse? ment of 4,000 leading members of the medical pro? fession, some twenty years ago, its proprietor was well aware that it could not wholly escape the penalty attached to new and useful pr<M>n>-u?i/>s3. He, therefore, 'endeavored to invest it with the strongest posaiblo safeguard against counterfeit? ers, and to render all attompts to pirato it difficult and dangerous. It was subniittcu to distinguish? ed chemists for analysis, and pronounced by them tho purest spirit ever manufactured. Its purity and properties haviug been thus ascertained, samples of the article woro forwarded to 10,000 phrscians, including all tho leading practitioners in tho United States, for purposes of experiment. A circular, requesting a trial of the preparation and a report of the result, accompanied each specimen. 4,000 of tho most eminent medical men in tho Uuion promptly responded. Their opinions of tho article were unanimously favorable. Such a preparation, they said, had long been wanted by tho profession, as no rebaneo could bo placod on tho ordinary liquors of commerce; all of which were moro or less adulterated, and, therefore, unfit for medical purposes. The peculiar excel lcnco and strength of the oil of juniper, which formed ono of tue principal ingredients of tho Schnapps, together with an unalloyed character of tba alcoholic element, give it, in tho estimation of the faculty, a marked superiority ovor every other diffusive stimulant as a diuretic, tonic and restorative These satisfactory credentials from professional mon of tho highest rank were published in a condensed form, and enclosod with each bottle of tho Schnapps, as one of tho guarantees of itB genuineness. Other precautions against fraud were also adopted; a patent was obtained for the article, tho label was copyrighted, a fae simile ot the proprietor's autograph signature was attaohed to each label and cover, his name and that of tho preparation wore embossed on the bottles, and the corks woro sealed with his private soal. No article had ever been Bold in thia country nndor the name nf Schnapps prior to tho introduction of Wolfe's Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps, in 1851; and tho label was deposited, as bis trado mark, in the United States District Court for tho Southern Dis? trict of New York during that year. It might bo supposed, by persons unacquainted with tho daring character of tho pirates who prey upon tho reputation of honorable merchants, by vending doloterious trash under their namo, that tho protections so carefully thrown around these Schnapps would have precluded the introductions and salo of counterfeits. Thoy seem, however, only to have stimulated tho rapacity of impostors. The trado mark of tho proprietor has boen stolen: tho endorsement which his Sohiedam Aromatic Schnapps alone received from tho medical pro? fession has been claimed by mendacious humbugs; his labels an bottles bavo been imitated, his ad? vertisements paraphrased, his circulars copied, and, worso than all, dishonorable retailers, after disposing of tho genuino contonts of his bottles, havo lilied them up with common gin, tho most deleterious of all liquors, and thus mado his name and brand a cover for poison. The public, tho modical profession and the sick, for whom tho Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps is prescribed as a remedy, aro equally interested with tho proprietor in tho dotection and suppression of theso nefarious practices. Tho genuine article, manufactured at tho establishment of tho under? signed, in Schiedam, Holland, is distilled from a barley of tho finest quality, and flavored with an essential extract of the berry of tho Italian juniper, of unequalled purity. By a process un? known in tho preparation of any other liquor, it is freed from every acrimouioue and corrosivo ole mont. Complaints have been received from tho leading physicians and families in tho Southern States, of tho salo of cheap imitations of tho Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps in thoso markets; and travel? ers, who are in tho habit of using it as an antidoto to tho baneful inftuenco of unwholesomo river water, testify that cheap gin, put up in Schiodam bottles, is frequently palmed off upon tho unwary. Thelagcnts of tho undersigned have been requested to instituto inquiries on the subject, and to for? ward to him tim names of such partios as they may ascertain to bo engaged in tho atrocious system of deception. In conclusion, tho under? signed would my that he has produced, from under tho hands of tho most distinguished men of science in America, proofs unanswerable of tho purity and medicinal excellence of tho Schiedam Aromatic Schnapp?; that be has oxpfa.nded many thousand dollars in surrounding it with guarantees and safeguards, which he designed should protect the pubho and himself against fraudulent imita? tions; that he bas shown it to be the only liquor in the world that can be uniformly depended upon as unadulturatod; that ht bas challenged investi, gation, analysis, comparison, and experiment in all its forms; and from every ordeal the prepa? ration which bears his name, seal and trade mark, has come off triumphant. Ile, therefore, feels it a duty he owes to his fellow-oitizens .generally, to tho' medical profession and tho sick, to denounce j and exposo tho Charlatans who counterfeit these evidences of identity, and he calls upon tho press and tho public to aid him in his efforts to remedy so great an evil.
