HORRIBLE MURDER.-On tho bight
of November 17, Howard A. Cleve?
land, a young man about twenty-five j
years of age, visited his friend War?
ren George, at Eust Orringtou, Me.,
for the purpose of pussing tho night.
Some time during the night Cleve?
land arose and out George's throat
from ear to ear, nearly severing his
head from his body. His mother, nu
old lady seventy years of age, then
helped him to conceal the body in
the cellar; after which they robbed
tho house and fled. The murder baa
bnt recently been discovered, and has
created a great sensation, from its
brutal nature. Tho old lady was ar?
rested a few days since, and young
Cleveland was apprehended in Boston
on Friday night.-New York Times.

the assassination of Pollard ns "a
characteristically Southern crime,"

which have provoked scarcely a Hue
of editorial comment. The retort is
fair. Our criminal record is aa black
as that of the Sooth, without as much
incentive or provocation.

the Georgia Senators seems confined
to Gov. Bullock and his personal ad?

who were expelled from the Georgia
Legislature on account of their color.
Gen. Meade and other prominent
Republicans in Georgia, advocate
the chums of the Senators elect, and
urge their admission.
The Aloa, which has just arrived at
Mobile, direct frorn Bombay, is built
entirely of steel. It is tho first vessel
of tho kind over seen in Mobile.
About 1,000 persons have been
thrown out of employment by the
disastrous conflagration, in Lynn,
Massachusetts.
