A CONFEDERATE IN Ii VJ CK.-A rebel soldier n aro od Clayton, a resident of Person County, was let out o? prison at the close of the war, and landed in Philadelphia, ragged and without a cent of money. Ho met up with an old baohelor gontloman who, taking a fan cy to him; sent him to an old maiden sister living in the country, io be employed by her ou har farm. He worked ail that year for the old lady, and saved money enough to bring bim homo. The other day, Clayton received notice of the old lady's death, and that she had loft him the wu. ol o of her estate. The estate contains about 160 acres of good land, bes. forty-six mile? from Philadelphia, is well stocked, and has all the conveniences of a model farm. Clayton lived some ten or twelve miles from here, and has Buffered ex? tremo poverty. Tba Herald says that New York is in reality the Empire State.
