The cook was seated near the entrance of the galley, smoking his pipe, at the time of tho collision, and naturally east a careless glance at the melting piece of iee lying near his door. Ha picked up a broom to sweep it way, when he noticed that something f a pink color gleamed from itu very entre. Astonished at this, he seized hatchet, and broke the piece of ice, when he was stiil more astonished to see a rose-a full blown rose-drop from betwocn the cracked parti?les. The flower, which was in a perfect state of preservation, was disoovored to be a monthly rose; hut when or how it carno to be frozen in an ice? berg is ft mystery which still remains unsolved, althongh it is believed that the rose was dropped into the sea by Captain Wakeman of the Rochet, which vessel visited the Arctic twenty years ago. Captain Wakeman, who was very fond of flowers, especially of roses, carried away with him, when he sailed from New London, a couple of monthly roses, presented to him by his wife. Stoven by ice during a fu? rious gale, the Rochet wont down with all on boord on the night of the 10th of July, 1819. One of the roses must then have become wedged in a crevice between tho ice, when tho water, freezing aronnd it, inclosed it in a crystal prison.
