Prosent-His Honor the Mayor;) Aldermen Alexander, McDonald, McKenzie, Bawls, Remseu, Simons, Taylor, Wilder and Wing. The minutes of the last regular meeting w-re read and con Br med. A petition, signed by a number of merchants of the city, was presented, praying that Council would take mea? sures to prohibit a class of individu? als, known as local drummers, from entering their places of business for the purpose of inducing their cus? tomers to muko their purchases from the persons by whom they nre em? ployed. Tho petitioners claim that ?non a proceeding is illegitimate, and contrary to the rules of trade. On motion, a Special Committee of Three, consisting of Aldermen McKenzie, McDonald and Wilder, were appointed to examino into the merits of the foregoing petition, with instructions to report at the next meeting of Council. An application from J. Sc T. R Agnew, for quart license to retail spirituous liquors, was presented, and referred to the Committee on Licenses. AU cff.;rU save the building were unavailing. The loss is very large, very little being saved. j.ij. i t. .'Jv: Strange Story ot Captivity-A Curo lina. Girl Among Uar Indian? for Many Years. Tho Colorado Iribune lins the fol? lowing strango story: We saw nt tho Planters' House, yesterday, n woman named Lizzio Blackburn, a nativo of Mount Jack? son, Sonth Carolina, who claims to have boen a prisoner among differont tribes of Indians twenty-four years. Sho is now twenty-eight years old and is a cripple from tho loss of both of ber limbs, which have been ampu? tated twice, the first time at the ankle joints, and again about tbrco inches below the knee. Her story of her captare and imprisonment is about as follows, commencing with how she carno to be in the Indian coun? try: When she was five years old, her father, Thomas Blackburn, emigrated from South Carolina, and joined tho Mormons at Nanvoo, Illinois. He 'accompanied them to Florence, Ne? braska, and finally emigrated to Utah, with tho earliest emigrants, and preached among them. In 1863 or 1864, the father having become somewhat dissipated, and having for somo time been accustomed to living among tho Mormon Indians, Lizzio and her mother and two younger sis? ters, aged respectively ten and four? teen years, concluded to run away from him and tho Mormons, and if possible, reach California. They took with them only what they could pack about their persons, and with a rifle and some ammunition, started West? ward from Salt Lake, wandered for nine months, when they were cap? tured by tho Digger Indians. Lizzie was sold l>3 tho Diggers to tho Foxes. Tho mother aud two remaining sis? ters, when they learned of Lizzie's salo, ran away from the Diggers and wcro pursued. When found, they hud starved and frozen to death, und were bin ned on Horse Creek. The Foxes sold Lizzio to the Suakea. Then she learned of tho death of her mother and sisters and saw thom buried. She ran away from the Snakes, but was captured. She was badly frozen in the nttempt, and was afterwards again frozen. Sho says that two half-breeds, named Towan tinus and Puchanatagh, took her to Washington, D. C., where her limbs wore amputated, and that she was af? terwards returned to the Snakes by his direction, he being among them as a kind of chief nt tho time. She says that her father has spent most of bis time among tho Indians for tho last seven or oight years, and is une of them now. He is with tho Ara? pahoes or Cheyennes. Tho Snakes traded her to tho Arapahoes, from whom she escaped about a year ago, by the assistance of Fred. Jones, a Government scout, and was brought into Ellsworth. At thc time of her escape, tho Arapahoes wero camped at the Big B.nd of the Arkansas. A portion of the time since her escape, she bas been engaged as a scout, but for tho last fow mouths has boen doing house work at a stage station down on tho Smoky Hill road. Fred. Jones, her rescuer, was discharged from Government employ last spring, just before tho outbreak down on tho Solomon, in Kansas, and as ho threat? ened to go with the Indians, it was supposed that he was with them at that time. She savs she counted 150 white men in one Indian camp which she visited while acting in the capa? city of scout, and that there are a great many among all the tribes. The Diggers treated her most cruelly, and all treated her very roughly. Her father, though, often protootod her from severe treatmeut. She says that she bas an uncle living somewhere on the North Platte River, and she is now on the way to him. Sho expect? ed to leavo this morning. The old Bank of North Caroliua has been driven into bankruptcy by creditors in Now York, who demand? ed par valuo for notes held against the bank and bought since tho close of tho war. This has boon accom? plished by a New York ring formed for tho purpose, which by attachment took np every dollar the bauk sent to New York with a view to re-establish its finances. The liabilities of tho bank aro nbont $300,000, mainly notes. Its assets will pay sixty cents on the dollar. Property owned by this bank, consisting of rosin fields and cotton, was seizod by Govornor Holden when ho was appointed Pro? visional Governor, and sold to defray expenses of provisional government ; hence one of tho canses why tho bunk hos boon thrown into bankruptcy. Wm. Elliott Mon troy, horn in Santa Clara, California, attained his majori? ty in time to vote at tho Presidential ^iculiou on the ad. It is believed fiat he is the only nativo Californian, born of American parents, old enough to vote at this election.
