NEW YOKE, October 27.-An im? mense mnss meeting was held this evening, at Tammany Hall and Union Square" Fourteenth street from Third to Fifth aveline was illumi? nated with calcium lights. Tho grand stand, fronting Broadway, was draped with the American flag, and about it was inscribed: "We know no such word as faiL" Tammany Hall was filled to overflowing. It was splen? didly decorated with flags, transpa? rencies, significant mottoes. The audience was largely composed of ladies, and on tho platform were many of the most prominent members of the: Democratic party in the State and city. The meeting was called to order by Hon. O. A. Hall, who nomi? nated ' for Chairman Hon. J. S. Thayer, who delivered an able ad? dress. At the conclusion of Mr. Thayer's speech, Gen. Blair was introduced, his appearance being tho signal foi an outburst of the wildest enthusi? asm. * He said he bore to tho Demo? cracy of the city of New York thc greetings of their brother Democrats of- the West, who would wring frone their adversaries the viotory in No? vember. He favored generosity one kindness toward the South. He de sired this for the good of the Nortt as well as the South. He then pro ceeded to discuss the Reconstructiot Acts, with the view of showing thei: unconstitutionality. He said tba the outcry against himself was a con temptible" electioneering pretence. I elected, he would have neither tb disposition nor the power to inaugu rate a revolutionary policy. .News Item?.
