THE BIGHT OP WAY.-A notice was
served on the South Carolina Bail
road Company, through its agent at
Aiken, a wee? or two ago, that a jury
would be impannelled, under "tho
Act to declare the manner in which
the lands, or the right of way over j
the lands, of persons or corporations
may be taken," for the purpose of
ascertaining what compensation
should be given the company for the
right of way required at Graniteville
by the Conimbia and Augusta Bail
road Company. On behalf of tho
South Carolina Bailrood Company, a
motion was make before Judge Platt
to vacate the order for impannelling
the jury, for the reason that thirty
days' notice that the said right of way
was required had not been given, as
is provided for by the Act referred
to. Upon this fact being established,
Judge Platt ordered tba order to be
vacated, as prayed.
The question of the right of rail -
roads and other corporations to take ]
the lands of corporations or indivi?
duals, and the whole subject of the
constitutionality of the Aot of the Le?
gislature upon this subject, will proba?
bly come up in the injunction case to
be argued before Jndge Willard to?
day, to which the South Carotina
Bailroad is a party.-Cliarleston Neics.
The expenses incurred by the
National Government since July 1
for the Freedmen's Bureau and re?
construction purposes have been
found, upon recent examination, to
exceed $20,000,000. As this is only
one of the minor channels of extrava?
gant expenditure, the question natu?
rally arises, bow long can Uncle
