AN A (TT TO PBOVXMB FOB THE ELECTION OF THE OFFICERS OF THE DXOOBPO RATED CITIES AND TOWNS IN TOT STATE OF SOOTH CAROLINA. I. Be il enacted by the Sonate and House of Representatives of the State of SoutJi Carolina, now met and silting in General Assemhly, and by the autho? rity of the same, That h?B Excellenoy the Governor shall, on or immedi? ately after tho passago of this Aot, order au election to be held on the second Tuesday of November, in the year 18G8, in nil incorporated cities and towns of this State for the elec? tion of all officers provided for by tho charters of tho said cities and towns. II. The Managers of Elections ap? pointed in pursuance of an Act of tho General Assembly, passed at the special session of 1868, entitled "An Act tq provide for the next general election," arc hereby authorized and required to conduct tho elections herein provided for, and all subse? quent elections that moy be ordered to be held in such cities and towns, until otherwise provided for by law. Ul. In order to secure tho free expression of all persons qualified to vote us hereinafter provided, tho Managers of Election shall open their respective polling places for three (3) days next preceding the day lixed for the election herein pro? vided for, commencing at 7 o'clock a. m., and closing nt 5 o'clock p. m., each day, aud shall during these days record the names of all qualified electors and their place of residence in a book to be furnished by them, the Managers. All persons who pre? sent themselves for such registration shall, before their names are record ed, take and subscribe to the follow ing oath: I,-, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I am a citizci of the United States; that I hnv< been an inhabitant of this State foi one year next preceding this day and foi- tho last sixty days a residen of this city (town or village, as tin case may be;) that I reside in thil ward (or polling precinct.) VI. In all elections hold in accoi anco with this Act tho polls shall opened at 7 o'clock a. m., and kc opeu during ono day at all tho po ing precincts and in tho vario wards, and shall closo at 5 o'clock m. Each ward in tho city Charleston shall constitute at lei ono polling precinct. VII. Tho officers elected une this Act shall, on taking tho on prescribed in the Constitution, inducted into office on the Mond succeeding their election, and sh immediately enter upon thc d charge of their official duties. VIII. Said officers shall hold th offices up to the regular time fixed charter for the election of tho sa and for ono full term thereafter* a until their successors aro duly elect and qualified, the oath of office rc be ad ministered by any officer of t Stato who is authorized by law administer the same. IX. ! The Managers of Elect! shall receive as compensation their services the sum of two dollars per day for the time actually em? ployed in such election, and also for the time employed in the registration of voters. X. All bar-rooms and drinking saloons in the town or city whom DQOU election is held shall be closed on the days of eleotion, and any per? son who shall sell to any person any intoxicating drinks on the day of eleotion shall be guilty of a misde? meanor, and on conviction thereof shall be fined in a sum not less than one hundred dollars nor moro than three hundred dollars, or bo impri I Boned for a period not less than ono | month nor moro than six months. September ll)_ mo4 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS STATE OE 80DTH CAROLINA, EXECUTIVE DET.UITS?ENT, COLUMBIA, October 16, 1868. IN pursuance of an Act of tho General Assembly, passel September 25th, 1868, an Election will bo held on tho se? cond TUESDAY of November, being tho t' nth day thereof, in all Incorporated Cities and Towna of this State, for tho Election of all Oflicers provided for by thc Charters of tho said Cities and Towna. Tho Managers of Elections, appointed in pursuance of an Act to provide for tho next general election, aro authorized and required to conduct tho Municipal Elec? tions aforesaid, until otherwise provided for bj* law. The qualifications of an Elector shall be those required by tho Constitution, to? gether with a residence of sixty days, next preceding the Election, within the corporate limita of the City or Town, and that ho has been duly registered in thc Ward or Precinct hi which ho offers to vote. Tho Managers of Elections shall open their respective polling places for three days, next preceding tho day of election, from 7 A. M. to 5 Pi M., for tho purpose of registering the names of tho qualified electors and their places of residence. All bar-rooms and drinking saloons in tho Town or City where such Election ia hold, shall bc closed on the day of Elec? tion; and any person who shall sell to any person any intoxicating drinks o|n tho day of Election, shall be guilty of a misde? meanor, and, on conviction thereof, shall bo fined, In a sum not less than ono hun drod dollars, nor more than threo hundred dollars, or bo imprisoned, for a period not lees than ono month, nor more than six months. The Managers of Elections as aforesaid, and each of thom, aro heroby required, after due publication, and with niriot ro gard to tho provisions of the Constitution and of tho laws of the Btate, touching their duty in such caso, to causo such Elections to be held in their respectivo Cities and Towna, on tho day aforesaid; and to take all tho necessary steps for tho holding of auch Elections, and for tho ascertaining and determining tho persons who shall have been duly olected thereat.
