Gentlemen, this will not do. How
long do you suppose "the metropolis
of the Western world" would retain
its distinctive character as a highly
respeotable city, if only 1,336 boys
and girls are brought into its

A man named Evans recently in?

captain of a negro company, had as?
serted that Gen. Butler, during the
impeachment trial, had given him a
flag as one of a company of conspi?
rators organized for the assassination
of President Johnson. Evans, who
is a brother-in-law of Himebur, says
that his wife will testify to the truth
of the statement.

SPECIAL NOTICES.
A MISERABLE: SHAKER IS THE
Victim to Fever and Agno. Thia tedious
and enervating disease is, unfortunately,
too well known to need a description. It
is strictly a malarious discaao, caused by
oxhalations from tho soil, especially from
marshes, swamps and newly cleared lands
encumbered with decomposing vegetable
matter. Tho chiils is one of the most
troublesome of maladies, as the patient,
though ho may not bo confined to his bed,
is incapable of action. The experienco of I
years has demonstrated .he fact that
HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS is
a sure means of fortifying tho system
against all atmospheric poison, broaking
up tho paroxysms and rapidly restoring
tho strength. Quinine, which has so long
been tho great romcdy for chills, has boen
snpercodod by this powerful and harmless
agent; while as a preventive it is un?
equalled, as its uso will certainly exempt
all who may livo in unhealthy localities,
from tho ravages of this disease.
. HoBtotter's Stomach Bitters is now
among tho most popular, and, at tho samo
time, valuable specifics in tho medical
world. In recommending it to thc public,
wo aro fully conscious of doing them a
great servico, knowing, as wo do, their
many excellent qualities, and sure and
speedy action in all cascB whore the dis
easo ie caused by irregularity of tho diges?
tivo organs.
As a tonic it is both mild and agreeable
to tho taste, and stimulating in its action
upon the system. Oct 16 f6
"MANHOOD."-Another New Medical
Pamphlet from tho pen of Dr. Curtis. Tho
Medical Times says of this work: "This
valuablo trcatisoon thc cause and cure of
premature decline shows how health is
impaired through secret abuses of youth
and manhood, and how easily regained. It
gives a clear synopsis of tho impediments
to marriage, the cause and effects of ner?
vous debility, and thc remedies therefor."
