Realism has reached its climax in
Australia, where a theatrical manager
thought to produce a fine effect by
introducing genuine cannibals on the
stage. In tho progress of the ploy,
the hero was delivered bound into
their hands, when, instead of going
through the motions, the "first na?
tive" took a good mouth-ful out of
the Captain's leg. The hero howled,
and the curtain fell.
