THE AIR LINE KATXEOAD.-We
learn that the Air Line Railroad
Oompany will, at an early day, hold
a mooting at Atlanta, Ga., for the
?turpose of taking the initiatory steps
or the commencement of this work.
This will shorten the distance be?
tween Charlotte, N. C., and Atlanta
214 miles. Mr. Buford, the enter?
prising <rad energetio President of
the Richmond and Danville Railroad,
is the President of that road also.
He has gone to work manfully and
obtained tho necessary charters and
the most liberal franchises from the
Legislatures of Georgia, South Ca?
rolina and North Carolina. Georgia
has loaned the oompany $1,200 per
mile for every mile the road passes
through that State, and the Legisla?
tures of all three States have granted
the privilege, to the company of
holding lands and other property ad
infinitum..
It is worth while remarking the
exceeding good order that has been
maintained throughout Spain during
the whole period of the revolution,
and while the country bas been with?
out a regularly constituted and estab?
lished Government. It is over a
fortnight since the Queen decamped,
and her capital fell into the hands of
the insurgents. Daring that period,
order and quiet appear to have pre?
vailed at Madrid, and in all the great
cities and in all the provinces of
Spain.
The Prussian troops are learning
to execute a new manouvre. A bat?
talion throws itself on the ground
and two other battalions march
over them at quick march to the
front. The movement was lately
executed for the benefit of the Crown
Prince of Prussia, who was inspect?
ing the troops at Settin. Two Eng?
lish officers in his suite also witness?
ed it.
A terrible tragedy was enacted at
Aspinwall previous to the sailing of
. tho steamship Ocean Quean, which
reached New York on Tuesday. On
the morning of September 24, Mr.
James Baldwin, assistant engineer of
the Panama Railroad, shot Mr. Wm.
Parker, superintendent of the road,
dead, and subsequently committed
suicide himself.
At a recent election in Prague, a
speaker, in proposing tho candidate
of the Bohemian Central Committee,
concluded as follows: "Now, every
one of yoo take a ballot and a shilling.
Those who are in favor of B, will put
their ballots in the box; those who
are opposed, will put in the shilling.
Result- Unanimous election of B.
