NEW YOEE, Octobor G.-The mass meeting ia honor of Gen. McClellau, last night, was tho greatest ever held in this city. An experienced polico captain estimated 90,000 in tho torch? light procession. Tho procession was joined by delegations from the ad? joining Counties. It extended ten miles. The scene in Union Squaro was graud. Tho main stand ropro sented the Temple of Liberty, and was brilliantly illuminated by strings of lights stretched to Tammany Hall. Tho stroets in the vicinity seemed literally on firo with calcium lights, rockets, fire paintings and bnloons. Tho main stand facing Broadway was tho centro of attraction, outside of Tammany Hall, although thero were six other ulanda at which speeches were made to immense throngs. It is roughly estimated that 500,000 men, women and children wero in tho crowd. Tho street was packed down Broadway to Eleventh street, while the cross streets were alive with citizens. General Baldy Smith pre? sided, and said he represented hun? dreds of thousands of soldiers who thought tho results of tho war would be lost, without an entire chango of policy. A letter from McClellan was read, emphatically endorsing the De? mocratic candidates. HARTFORD, CONN., Octobor G.-Mu? nicipal elections occurred through? out tho State tn-day. Tho Democra? tic gain is largely in the majority. NEWHAVEN, CONN., October G. The Democratic majority in this city is 919. RICHMOND, October 6.-To-daj, as forty negro penitentiary convicts, hired out to work on tho Chesepeako and Ohio Railroad, were going on tho Central Railroad to Covington, they overpowered tho guard, four miles boyond Gordonville, and twenty-four leaped off, while the train was at full speed. Two were instantly killed by tho leap, aud three mortally wounded. The rest of thoso who leaped off escapod. John Quincy Adams, of Massa? chusetts, arrived here to day, ou his way to South Carolina.
