A MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR.-It was reported in our city yesterday, by Mr. Israel Thomas, of Brunswick 1%, County, that a mule and buggy was found by a negro, on Monday night, in a lonely place on the Brunswick road, ten or twelve miles from this place. The mule was detached from the buggy, and the harness broken. In the buggy, an over-coat, a carpet Y bag containing a quantity of clothes, and a number of salted fish were found. The negro brought the mule and conveyance to the city. As this spot is quite an out-of-the way place, a suspicion of some foul play is naturally created. Major Reilly, at tho ferry here, recollects a whito man crossing iu this buggy, and with the same mule, about three weeks ago, bound, it is thought, on a peddling tour along thc coast. It may have been that ho had about his person quito a sum of money, for which he may have been murdered. The affair is yet in doubt. It may, perhaps, be cleared up in a few days, either by confirmation of suspicions or tho discovery of tho missing man. [ Wilmington Star. SAD OCCURRENCE.-It becomes our painful duty to record another dis? tressing casualty. On Monday last, at Ninety-Six, Mr. Bozeinan, while, engaged at his saw mill, was crushed by a heavy log rolling upon him, and instantly killed. Ho leaves a young wifo and threo children to mourn his loss. Mr. Alexander Stevenson, au old and respected citizen of this District, died at his residence, fivo miles from the village, on Saturday last. [Abbeville Banner. COLORED MAN SHOT.-Wo under? stand that ono Patrick Johnson shot and very seriously wounded a colored man, for no other cause thau his re? fusal to say whether ho was a radical or Democrat. This happened near Belair, last night. A warrant for Johnson was issued, but ho made his oscapo. Wo sincerely trust that tho timo is not far distant when these out? laws will recoivo tho punishment thoy so richly dosorve. [National (Ga.) Republican. AH the excitement of the political campaign ia likely to be Boon eclipsed by tho startling disclosures about tho revenue frauds. -President Johnson has commenced in earnest to investi? gate lb ese stupendous frauds of a hundred millions or more, and no doubt there will be a terrible shaking up of the whole rotten system, in? volving high and low officials, from the Secretary of the Treasury, Com? missioner of Internal Reveuue and members of Congress down to the inspectors, assessors, collectors and district attorneys. It will be an earthquake to the office-holders, and we may look out for tho greatest havoc among the internal revenue thieves and rascals. ROTTEN CORN AND COTTON.-Wei hear of considerable complaint among | our farmers of rotten corn and cot? ton. The rot in cotton is confined I principally to that crop known asl Zipporah. One of our planters in-1 forms us that ho gathered a load of | corn a few days ago, and at least one fourth of it was rotten. Should this I prevail to any extent, our corn crop will fall much shorter than was anti? cipated. The complaint is not local | but general, but wo have not been able to learn whether or not in so I great a proportion, as in the cose above stated.-Marion Star. EXAGGERATION.-The press vt tho North comment freely on the Camilla riot in Georgia, and more or less each side is biased by its partisan feelings; but the recklessness of statement by some of the leading radical journals, is incomprehensible. For instance, the New York Commercial says of the unfortunate negroes, who were by selfish emissaries drawn into making nn armed demonstration at a Repub? lican meeting, that "thirty-five were killed and upwards of a hundred wounded." Now tho official report of Major Howard, of both killed and wounded, numbers only somo thirty five, three being other than freed? men. Sensational stories as to hunt? ing with dogs, kc, are also added, as coming from alarmed freedmen, and taken ns Gospel. The Conference of the M. E.
