One of the happy effeots of the late political revival in Mississippi, is to be found in the hegira of the car? pet-baggers, says the New Orleans Times, tho consideration for which they left home, wives and loving babies, having failed through the obstinate desertion of the colored Democracy, a species of nostalgia hos broken out among them in the form of an epidemic, and is sweeping them away by hundreds. The bur? den of the song with which they now solace their unoccupied tim?is, "Oh! carry me back !" and a grateful com munity joins gratefully in the chorus Rarely, however, these unclean birds, in their Northern flight, omit perch? ing a moment at Washington, to drop a revengeful seed that may blossom into trouble for their betray ers, and we, therefore, deem Mr Railsbaok's honest admission so ex? ceptional as to be worthy of acknow? ledgment. In fact, we half regret now that Railsbaok was not elected but it is some satisfaction to know that besides Democratic votes, his name must have played no unimpor tant part in preventing his election What enthusiasm could ever have been awakened with such cries as "Railsback for Congress," or "Rails back and Liberty." So unfortunate is he in this respect, that wo coe soientiously believe when the dog of the proverb was given "a bad natue,'" Railsback mnst have been about. At a radical meeting recently held in Washington, Mr. Railsback, of Mississippi, said, "he had been a can? didate for Congress in Mississippi. He thought Mississippi was not a very desirable place to live in any? how, as the Democrats there were thoroughly organized, and worked like beavers.
