American commends onions as a
specific against epidemics-not as an
esculent, but sliced and kept in a
sick room, where they will absorb
any atmospheric poison.' They
shonld be replaced by fresh ones
every Lour. It is noticed that in
the room of a small-pox patient,
they will blister and decompose with
great rapidity, but will prevent the
spread of tho disease. Their applica?

NATURE IS THE GREAT PHYSI?
CIAN.-This ia now admitted, by the mo
dical profession, as a fundamental princi?
ple of healing acienco. It is wisely
provided by tho human economy that
whenever anything is wrong in the physi?
cal system, thc natural forces of the body
aro brought to bear to expel tho disease.
The great aim, therefore, is to strengthen
the natural powers. This has been kept
in view by the skillful compouudcrs of
HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS,
which operates to give fresh vitality to all
the organa of tho body. Tho efloctof this
medicine upon tho stomach, tho liver and
the kidneys, is prompt abd decisive. Tho
patient, who is wise enough to quit drug?
ging and try the Bitters, soon feels as if
he had taken a new lease of lifo, and as he
continues thc nee of the article ho ia over?
joyed to find tho streams of health cours?
ing through his frame. It ia prepared
with groat care, and its component parts
aro entirely vegetable It is freo from the
objoctiona so often urged against prepara?
tions of tho kind. As a medical agent it
has no equal, while its pleasing flavor and
healthful effects have made it a general
favorite. It ia free from all properties
calculated to impair tho system, and its
operations aro at onco mild, soothing and
efficient. All who have used Hoatetter's
Stomach Bitters attest its virtuos and
commend it to uso.
Even those who are in the enjoyment of
Eerfect health frequently havo need to
avo recourao to t?nica aa preventivos of
disease. Wo aro never too woll armed
against the assaults of "tho illa that flesh
is heir to." In health or sickneaa thia
tonic eanuot be taken regularly without
giving vitality and elaaticity to the sys?
