BARBAROUS.-Henry Means, a co?
lored man, died in this city, on
Thursday night; and because ho
voted the convervativo ticket, his
color refused to assist at the burial.
This fact coming to the ears of one
of the leading oitizens, he made it
known, and at 9 o'olock, on Saturday
morning, thirty-five or forty gentle?
men went to his house, and pro?
ceeded with the body to the cemetery.
They had prepared a nice collin, and
ali other arrangements for a decent
burial. Thus he was buried by his
white friends, and a beautiful wreath
of evergreens placed upon his grave.
The services were conducted by the
Kev. Mr. Hal tom, of the Methodist
Church.
Had the fact of tho refusal on the
part of his color been known sooner,
we doubt not but that hundreds of
our oitizens would have been present.
And it was their plain duty to see
that the mon did not receive detri?
ment, because he was a friend to his
country.-Charlotte Times.
The plot recently discovered in
Spain to overthrow Queen Isabel II,
was more formidable in its propor?
tions than was at first supposed.
Some of the most prominent, men in
the army, heretofore classed among
her most devoted partizaus, were
concerned in the treason-among
them, General Dulce, until recently
Captain-General of Cuba, who owes
both his position and wealth to her
favoritism in sending him to handle
the revenues of that wealthy island.
The object of the revolution was to
place the Du" de Montpensier upon
the throne, and, most probably, ori?
ginated in the army, with the parti?
sans of General Prim, uow in exile.
Both Prim and Dulce are idolized in
tho army as the two greatest of
living heroes; but, as Spanish retri?
bution is both sudden aud severe,
tho former will soon cease to bo an
obstacle in the Queen's way. Like
Narvaez, they have but ono way of
treating enemies, and that is to shoot
them.
Peter Cngger's funeral was the
largest and most imposing ever seen
in Albany. The sublime music of
tho Gregorian Requiem was given
with male voices, and with a massive?
ness and effect rurely equalled. 10,
000 spectators lined tho streets, and
many stores and residences wore
draped in mourning.

SPACIAL NOTICES.
(NATURE IS THE GREAT PHYSI?
CIAN-This ia now admitted, by tho me?
dical profession, as a fundamental princi?
pio of healing science. It is wisely
provided by the human economy that
whenever anything is wrong in tho physi?
cal system, the natural forces of the body
aro brought to boar to expel the disease.
The great aim, therefore, is to strengthen
tho natural powors. This has been kept
in view by the skillful compounders of
HOSTETTER'S STOMACH BITTERS,
which operates to givo fresh vitality to all
the organs of tho body. Tho eflect of tins
medicine upon the stomach, the liver and
tho kidneys, is prompt and decisive. Tho
pationt, who is wiso enough to quit drug?
ging and try the Bitters, soon feels as if
he had takon a now lease of lifo, and as he
continues ibu UHO of tho article he is over?
joyed to find tho streams of health cours?
ing throngh his frame. It is prepared
with great care, and its componont parts
aro entirely vegetable. It is free from the
objections so often urged against prepara?
tions of tho kind. As a medical agent it
has no equal, while its ploasing flavor and
healthful effects have mado it a general
favorite. It is free from all properties
calculated to impair tho system, and its
operations aro at once mild, soothing and
efficient. All who have used Hoatetter's
Stomach Bitters attest its virtues and
commend it to use.
Even those who are in the enjoyment of
perfect health frequently have need to
have recourse to tonics as preventives of
disease We aro never too well armed
against the assaults of "the ills that flesh
is heir to." In health or sickness this
tonic cannot be taken regularly without
giving vitality and elasticity to tho syB

Pamphlet from the pen of Dr. Curtis. The
Medical Times says of this work: "This
valuable treatise on the cause and cure of

and manhood, and how easily regained. It
gives a clear synopsis of the impediment!
to marriage, tho cause and effects of ner?

Tlio annals of the American Republic
show no political campaign comparable in
tho magnitude of its issues and tho mo?

very lifo of freo government is on trial,
and it will bo a aad commentary on the
capacity of the people for tho exercise of
that high trust if thoy, tho jurors who are
td try tho issue, pronounce a verdict of
self-condemnation. If tho South has any
hopo it is in the success of tho Democratic
party in tho coming Presidential election;
I and every citizen ie vitally interested in
j tho progress of the battle, and cannot
I afford to be without a sound and reliable

an organ to disabuse the Northern mind
of the falsehoods in relation to Southern
