and privately mado upon him; but the
following hand-bill, now in circulation,
seems to demand a roply:

railroads, and will bo happy to wait on all
who may desire to patronize tho
ONLY DEMOCRATIC LINE OF HACKS

In roply to this card, I submit the fol?
lowing statement:
1st. That Mr. Robert Joyner waa an
. aspirant for tho office of Mayor of tho city
of Columbia, and that his* petition was
Bent m to tho Union League of that city
for the nomination for Mayor.
2d. That, on many occasions, he pub?
licly avowed that ho was a Republican and
with tho Republican party.
3d. That, if nominated, ho wonld insist
upon one-half of the Aldermen of tho city
being nominated from the colored men,
and 'hat ho was willing to sit with them
in Council, and that one-half of tho Police
s hon Ul be colored men. This was pro?
mised by him, and so understood by us, to
enable him to givo tho casting vote in
Council, and thereby carry out tho princi?
ples of the Republican party.
.Ith. The deponents further testify, that,
on tho occasion of a " serenade at the Na?
tional Hotel, Mr. Joyner invited ?he party,
composed principally ol' colored men, into
his house, and there and then made tho
statement that his house was opon to aU
his friends, irrespective of color, and
drank hana in hand with his colored
friends to the Bucceu of tho Republican
party.
5th. The undersigned further state,
tliat, on the day previous to tho election
for Kt at o officers and ratification of the
Constitution, that Robert Joyner said ho
would go down with tho box to Gadsden,
and that, having groat influence at that
precinct, ho would do all ho could to carry
the election for the Republican party. '

lic, ' by one P. F. Frazee, who has recently
purchased (with the promise of paying for
the same) tho stables of the late william
Hitchcock-said card containing language
which he may consider very injurious to
my father's buaincas; but for fear that the
combination of falseJiooda published by
this mischievous and insolent libeller may
bo seen by some who aro unacquainted
with ray father's character, I will, in*con
sideration thereof, reply to tho radical.
His entire card is a base falsehood, and
the author has not only uttered an un?
truth, but he knows it to be untrue, and
he is devoid of all principle-which he bas
proven hy taking this opportunity, dur?
ing my father's absence, in issuing auch a
base and libellous card, I, as his son,
take upon myself the responsibility of re?
plying to his false printed libel.
Let the public aak: Who is Frazee, and
who aro his ready and willing witnesses?
and then they will find out his vile accom?
plices. This libeller gives this aa his rea?
son for troubling the public: Because Mr.
Tl. Joyner (my father) has made the mat?
ter a political issue. ' Sly reason is simply

Frazoe, which reads aa follows:
"P. F. Frazoe, a Northerner by birth,
a Columbian by residence for a number of
years previous to tho war, a carriage mak?
er by trade, and tho patron saint uf tho
bandy honses of Columbia, who, a week or
two boforo tho election, carried a notorious
prostitute of this city to a placo of public
amusement; and, not content with a rotircd
position, carried her forward to a front
seat and sat besido her during the per?
formance. Ho lost, hy the burning of Co?
lumbia, as ia Baid by respectable parties
here, from $12,000 to $15,000 worth of pro?
perty, for which ho has a claim pending
agaiuat the Governmont sworn to amount
to about $142,000."
This will show the character of this man
who is willing and ready to swear to any?
thing, and wno ia a fit subject to claim the
