An old man named Ward was kill?
ed in Tecumseh, Michigan, a few days
ago. He had lived in that place
entirely alone for thirty years; no
one knew whence he came, and about
the only fact he communicated to his
neighbors was that he was in con?
stant dread of the Masons. Some
ingenious theorist has started the
story that "Ward was the original and
veritable Morgan, whose mysterious
disappearance sonio forty years ago,
supplied the raw material for some
of the bitterest political campaigns
in our history.
The case of Laura Waldron vs.
Caroline Richings was on trial again
Wednesday, in the Marine Court,
New York, The plaintiff brought j
the snit to recover for services as a
singer in the Richings Opera Troupe.
The case was tried about a month
ago, when the jury were unable to
agree. The trial was to bo concluded
Thursday. Misa Waldron is one of |
the "Queen Sisters."
The Irish American assails Qeneral
Grant's demand for ''peace," and
demands war. It says its platform
is "a war with England-a war of
retribution, that will unito North
and Sonth in one indissoluble bond of 1
brotherhood again," and it declares
it will snpport no party that does j
not adopt it. The Republicans failed
at Chicago-it now looks to see what
the Democrats in New York will do.
