is determined to push tho tax bill

ten days. The House will send tho
bill to the Senate, where the Finance.
Committeo will strike out all except
whiskey and tobacco, in which tho
Houso is expected to concur; and a
roductiou in tho whiskey tax will pro?
bably bo consummated during thc
first or second week of July.
lu the Senate, a bill relieving cer?
tain naval contractors was passed. A
bill extending the Freedman's Bu?
reau was passed, and goos to tho
House for concurrence. A joint
resolution relieving Boderick E. But?
lers from political disabilities, and
allowing him to hold any office with?
out taking the iron-clad oath, passed.

In tho House, a bill incorporating
the Art Union Association, in Wash?
ington, was tabled. A committee
was appointed to investigate the
treatment of Father McMahon, while
imprisoned in Canada. Ashley, of
Ohio, reported a resolution reciting
the murder of Solomon Dill, in South
Carolina, declaring that the Gover?
nor eleot should offer ,?10,000 reward
for the capture of the murderers and
arrest of all desperadoes in thc
neighborhood. The House then
went into a Committee of the Whole
on the tax bill. The Senate amend?
ment to the omnibus admission bili
was referred to the Committee on
Deconstruction. A resolution was
adopted, discharging Wooley. Ad?
journed.
The City Council has organized
with a Democratic majority, and to?
night will elect an ad interim Mayor.
Tho Senate passed tho omnibus
admission bill late last night, by a
strict party vote. Alabama is in?
cluded. Interdictions of tho four?
teenth article are to be enforced in
inaugurating State officers.
Tho Indians are hostile on thc
Upper Missouri. They have fired on
stcambats, run off stock, and killed
several whites.

urday night, the soldiers gave three
groans for Grant, threo cheers for
McClellan, and throe cheers for
Andrew Johnson. They were given
by tho soldiers with a hearty good
will, aud rolled froai thc capitol to
thu artesian basin. Wo arc also re?
quested, by these soldiers, to state
that any assertion contrary to this is
li base falsehood. These soldiers say
they arc white men, and have no love
for carpet-baggers and scalawags. In

effort made by tho publishers of
newspapers, or by other individuals,
tending to incito disgraceful ads and
insubordination; and, also, to ab?
stain from any expression of political
opinion as to persons or parties.
Thus may soldiers make manifest
that they are meritorious and incapa
ble of being led- astray by the evil
minded, and, last of all, by those
