NEW ORLEANS, May 28.-The Com? mittee of Investigation into charges of the presence of twenty-eight co? lored children at white schools in the third district, reported to the School Board, last evening, that twelve of the scholars reported as colored have been withdrawn from school; nine proved white; two refused, and six neglected to furnish the evidence re? quired. The matter was referred back to the Investigating Committee, with power to act. All children of known mixed blood will be required to attend the schools provided for colored children. Onr. dollar consista of 100 cents, and each [ cent of 10 mills, and may be written either $1 or $1.00, or $1 00.0, though this latter form ie somewhat unusual. So, again, "ono hundred dollars" is written $100, or I $100.00, as may bo preferred; but where the two ciphers are added, as in the latter case, they must be prefixed by the deci? mal point. The uso of this will bo obvious in the following illustration-say, one hun? dred dollars and twontw-fivo cents, which ia written $100.25, and ao on, for any amount. But that standard has boen changod-first, by a United States silver coinage, and then by a gold one; BO that now tho par value is about 9J per cent, above $4.44.4, or $4.8G per ?. Heneo, when exchange is quoted, Bay 109.} to 110 in New York, it is about par-i. c., it is just as profitable to buy exchange at that prico for a remittance as it is to Bend gold. If tho prico bo lil to 112, it would pay expoiiBCs, and 1 per cent, to 2 per cent, in addition, to send gold; but if below 109}, there would bc loss in shipping gold. All exchange ia calculated upon a gold basis, hut at the present timo tho usual business of the United States is transact? ed in currency. This has to bo taken into account in settling'auy price quoted from there, or sending remittances for pay? ments; ann thia is done in the following manner-for instance: What is ?100 worth in currency, with exchange, say, at 109}, and gold at 40 per cont, premium? ?1-444.44. Therefore, ?100-444.44. ' And 444.44 at 109}-$486.65 in gold. Which, at 40 percent, premium-$681.31 in currency. Tho samo process gives the true result, let the rato of exchange and premium on gold vary as they may. And, vice versa, to lind tho value of a given amount of cur? rency in sterling: A in Now York wishes to pay B in Lon? don tho valuo of $8,600 currency iu ster? ling. Gold is 136, aud exchange 108.}. Tho difficulty to bo overcome by those inexperienced will be with regard to tho decimal points, in multiplying and divid? ing; but tho working of ono or two ex ainplos, and bearing In mind what tho numbers represent, will fully obviate this. By noticing tho.priccB of exchange and gold quoted daily in tho papers, a correct answer to any query as to exchange eau at once bo wrought out by tho above. AB all articles of American produce aro quoted in currency, thia calculation must he made to determine tho cost in sterling; and as the premium on gold and tho rate of exchange aro constantly varying, (though the latter to'a mucli leas extent,) any one wishing to know tho value of any commodity from thence must mako fresh calculations almost daily to insure exact? ness.
