A "respectful remonstrance, on be? half of the white people of South 1 Carolina, against the Constitution of the late Convention of that State," has been presented to the lower branch of the Bump Congress. This document is signed by Gen. Wade Hampton and other citizens of South Carolann. It sets forth in vigorons' and concise terms, the manifold ini? quities of the instrument purporting to be a Constitution. This instru? ment has been narrowly examined by Governor Perry-"a pure man, an able lawyer and a life-long, bold and outspoken Unionist," aa tho remon- , strants say-and an analysis prepared by him is incorporated in tho re? monstrance. The remonstrants eonld not have believed that any representations they might make, would save them , from being dragged into the "Union" by the heartless wretches calling themselves the Congress of the United States. They probably prepared their protest for posterity. They are white men, with the hearts and souls of ? their race, and this is sufficient to debar them a hearing in Washington, where none but black barbarians and renegade Caucasians are heard or consulted. But their remonstrance will go into history as a protest against one of the most hideous crimes ever committed in the name of government, and a judgment upon tho tyrannous villains who have made, no* 'one South Carolina, but the win tb, a field of pollution, de gra< on and despotism. FL the Constitution of South Ca? rolina is no worse, in the main, th nu the Constitutions framed for and forced upou her sister States. Gen. Hampton and the true men whoso names appear with his on the remonstrance, say "the white people of their Stato will never quietly su u mit to negro mle." They may have '<0r> poss under the yoko of Jacobinism, ..but by moral agencies, by political organization, by every peaceful means" left to them, they will keep up this contest until they have re? gained the heritage of political con? trol handed down to them by an ho? nored ancestry. "Never surrender!" is the motto of these gallant men, aud it should be the motto of every Northern man who does not want to seo this country n.ade a disgrace to ci viii/,dion. This is a fight for free? dom, security and the preservation of the Government It is not for them? selves alone that the white men of South Carolina propose "to keep np this contest." The North is as much interested in it as the South. Wheel into line, then, Democrats of the North, and show by word and act, that you are as trae to your race and honor as the crushed and outraged citizens of the South. [New York Metropolitan Record. It is to be hoped that all who live in the bounty, and who possess tho means, will aid in their erection, ns nil will enjoy alike the advantages arising therefrom. Drum is Assistant Adjutant-General to General Meade. An appropriate name to head a court-martial. The Jefferson (Fla.) Gazette gives a C??B? of bite by a rattlesnake, as fol? lows : "Mr. Joseph M. Marvin, while examining some grape cateings in his vegetable garden, a few days ago, was bitten on tho hand by a rattlesnake. Mr. Marvin immedi? ately commenced sucking the poison from the wound, and sent for Drs. Palmer and Scott. In a few mo? ments his tongue became partially paralyzed, and his speech indistinct. He was treated freely with ammonia first, and afterwards with brandy, and, in the course of a few hours, it was seen that tho worst symptoms were psst, and no serious apprehen? sion felt for his Bufety, and, m a few days, every unpleasant effect had pnssed away, and he was able to resume his business. SERIOUS AFFAIR IN UNION.-On Sunday night last, several colored men clubbed together, and endea? vored to release a freedman, who was confined in jail, for mortally stabbing a white man, named Deuuis, residing near Colonel lieaty's place. The attacking party was finally driven off, and one or two of tho ringleaders captured. Much excitement pre? vailed in the villago during the night. {Chester' Standard.
