SIR HENRY PB HOGHTON.-This
gentleman, in a letter to the London
Herald, not only proves hi? existence,
bat shows his "game" on the "Con?
federate Loan" question, while, os]
bo says, most of his associates dodge.
He espoused the rebel side, and 'will
not, becauso it failed, back down.
Hie letter concludes thus:
"If I did lose by that loan even
the sum attributed to my name by
the Pall Mall Gazelle, I at least vas
not ashamed of tho causo in which I
loat.it, nor sought to fall away from
my friends when that cause came to
its worst. '
"I stood loyally by the ?outhern
people from first to lost, and I be?
lieve there is not an American (be he
North or South) who would condemn
me for adhering throughout to a
losing cause, which I believed, and
still believe, to have been a just one.
"I have no desire to make mischief
with regard to tho timi which the Pall
Mall Gazette is pleased to designate as
'an impudent forgery;' but perhaps
it may some day become known that
Mr. Bigelow and Mr. Seward were
not quite so much befooled in it as
they were supposed to be.

street, opposite Law Range, for FIVE
DAYS, commencing on MONDAY, May 18,
and ending on FRIDAY, May 22, 1868,
from 9 o'clock a. m. to 3 p. m., each day
when, if it appears that any persons aro
registered who are not entitled thereto,
their names will be stricken from the
lists; and tho names of persons who pos?
sess the necessary qualifications will be
added thereto.
ELECTION.
An ELECTION will be held, commencing
on .TUESDAY, the 2d day of June, and
ending on WEDNESDAY, tho 3d day of
June, 1868. The polls will be open from 6
o'clock a.m. until 6 p. m., each day, at
the old Ice House, on Washington street,
and at the Palmetto Eugine House, at
which ah registered voters may vote for
such County officers as are provided for
by the Constitution lately ratified by the
people. At the samo election, the dui
registered voters may also vote for euol
municipal officers as ore by law oleotive by
the people. The election will be governed
by the same rules, as to revision of regis
tratiou, conduct of election, and Qualifica?
