Dr. "W. S. Tyrroll writes to the
Jackson (Ohio) Standard that he was
recently called to visit a child which
was in convulsions. He tried various
anti-spasmodics in vain, and the
child died in twenty-four hours. Its
death, was caused by oil of tobacco,
taken from the bowl of a pipe, and
? applied to a wound on the lip, re?
ceived a few daysjpreviously in a fall
upon the stove. The child's mother
thought the oil would "dry up" the
sere-and it did.
A correspondent of a Western pa?
per says that one of the wealthiest j
men of Boston, becoming involved
not long since, made over his pro?
perty to his eldest son, in order to 1
save it. He passed through the j
crisis, however, without failure or
prosecution; but when he came to
demand the property back, the son
refused to restore it The latter now
holds the estate and Itves in luxury,
while the fattier has died of a broken
heart r . ?

State University. Bishop Simpson,
of the Methodist Episcopal Church,
was elected as the orator, and Fred.
Douglass was elected alternate, and
as Bishop Simpson will be unable to
attend the commencement exercises
of tire university, the address is to
be given by the colored orator.
