"Papa, didn't you whip me once
for biting little Tommy?"
"Yee, my dear, you hurt him very
much."
.'Well, then, papa, you ought to
whip sister's muslo master, too; he
bit sister yesterday afternoon right
on the mouth, and I know it hurt
her, because sho put her arms around
ula neck, and tried to choke him."
There ia a story of a man who
bonght a lot of hogs, in Illinois, and
drove thom slowly to Chicago. He
was compelled to sell at a loss of
$400. Returning home, he was asked
by his neighbors what wore tho pro?
fits of the operation. "Well," said
he, "I reckon I didn't make much
money out of tho trip, but I had the
company of tho hogs down."
A toll-gate keeper was brought
before a magistrate for cruelty to his
daughter. The little difficulty arode
from a discovery made by tho parent
that the girl, who was frequently left
in charge of the gate, used to allow
her sweetheart, a young butcher, to
drive bis wagou through freo. "Sho
never tolled her love."
A California editor says ho lately
met a grammarian, who had just
made a tour through the mines, cogi?
tating thus: "Positive, mine; com?
parative, miner; superlative, minus."
