WASHTSOTON, April 18.-Impeach?
ment was continued to-day, and
several witnesses examined relative
to the position of the Cabinet on the
tenure of office bill. The House did
no business,

JACKSON, April 17.-An ordinance
wns passed in the Convention to-day,
forbidding all persons from holding
office who in any woy aided in the
rebellion, unless the disabilities were
rernovod by a vote of two-thirds of
each House Pending the motion to
reconsider, Mr. Townsend claimed
that yeas and nays had been called
for, but. the President denied it;
whereupon Townsend accused the
President of falsehood. He was
.called to order by a colored delegate,
who moved to censure Townsend
replied that ho did not care for tho
censure of the Convention, and inti?
mated that .there were no gentlemen
bu the radical side of tho house.
Barry, author of the ordinance, re?
plied, tliat if they should gauge their
status by that of Townsend, bc was
correct. Townsend retired from the
hall, inviting Barry to follow him,
which he declined. After adjourn?
ment, Townsend denounced Barry,
but no collision occurred. Town?
send then assaulted Morgan, of
Yazoo, but the crowd interfered.
Afterwards he assaulted Eggleston,
the President of tho Convention, and
after a brief but severe struggle, they
were separated, both being on the
ground, Townsend uppermost. The
military was called out, but the crowd
dispersed bofore they reached the
. scene. Townsend is a conservative,
and was a Federal officer. All of the
conservatives and somo Republicans
have withdrawn from the Convention.
