, In one of the singing saloons of
Liverpool, some fow weeks since, a
Soung man named Carstairs, said to
0 respectably connected, while sing?
ing the "Bonnie Bine Flag," a Con?
federate song, was interrupted by an
American Captain named Howard,
who insisted upon Carstairs "shutting
up." Carstairs refused to comply
with the demand, an altercation en?
sued, and Howard -struck Carstairs
violently over the head with a water
bottle. Carstairs was removed to his
hotel, and afterwards taken homo
to his mother's house, where he died.
The spiritualists of St. Louis, on
Tuesday, celebrated the twentieth
anniversary of the advent of spiritu?
alism. 'The ceremonies consisted of
an address by Miss Elvira Wheelock,
in which she gave a history of the
Rochester knockings and similar
phenomena, briefly sketching the
growth and progress of their religion,
and claiming that they had gaiued
in this country over 4,000,000 of
believers.
