EDJTOH: We learn there is to bo a Cou veut iou held in Columbia, on Thursday evening, April 2, for the purpose of uoininnting suitable porous for State offices, and for Congress. Allow ns to suggest Samuel T. Pointer, Esq., of Spartauburg, ns a suitable person to represent the 4th Congressional District of this ?State. Mr. Poinier is a Kentuckian by birth, and opposed the secession movement iu his State. Since tho war lie has lived among us-is fully identified with the interests of the South, aud keenly alive to the great wrongs now attempted to be forced upon ns by radical legislation. Should he be nominated, we feel sure he can get the votes of over 2.000 good citi? zens of Spartanbnrg. We have seen that Mr. McAliley, of Chester, has been suggested for the samo position. While we know Mr. M. to be a good man, we doubt if he could seeuro votes sufficient for his election; and if elected, we doubt if he would take the test oath. Al? together, wo know no man in the 4th Congressional District more eligible than Mr. Poi nier; and if he should be nominated, the vote ho? will re? ceive in Spartauburg, will show how highly he is appreciated by those among whom he hus lived for tho last three yoars. Permit us to add, that we think it would be wiso for the Convention to nominate Gen. Scott for Governor, and Mr. Boozer for Lieut.-Governor. Gen. Scott is a Western man, and as far as his administration of the Freed? man's Bureau is concerned, wo have not discovered that ho has any of Now England's prejudices against the white people of the South. Mr. Boozer is known to have the inter? ests of our State at heart, and his follow-' itizous have heretofore shown their confidence in him. We believe it to be the duty of the people of our State to harmonize the differences of tho pa?t as much as possible; for by no surer means can wo defeat the designs of tho radical party, whose, very existence depends upon the continuance qf contusion and anarchy. Let us endeavor to restore the Union under the Consti? tution; and if in the end our efforts should fail, und a despotism shall bo forced upon us, wo eat-nct thou ic* proaeli ourselves with the thought that it has resulted from the folly of the people of SOUTH CAROLINA. As is always tho case on such occasions, there was a lurg? audience of ladies and gentli tuen representing the. fa? shion, intelligence, education and re? finement of Charleston society. According to previous announce? ment, a meeting of delegates from the various Democratic Associations of the District was held at Abbeville C. H., on Saturday, the 28th ult. On motion of the Hon. A. Burt, Mr. P. A. Connor was called to the Chair, and W. A. Leo, Esq., was requested to act as Secretary. Tho Cliairmau briefly stated that the object of tho meeting was to con? nect ourselves with tho various De? mocratic organizations which had been formed in different parts of tho State, und in furtherance of that end, to appoint delegates to tho Demo? cratic Convention which was to bo held in Columbia on tho 2d April next. Gen. McGowan, after a few appro? priate remarks upon tho necessity of Organization? and tho policy, at this time especially, of conueotiug our? selves with the great Democratic party, offered tho following resolu? tions: Resolved, That we neoept tho iuvi tatiou of tue Democratic party of .Bichland District, to meet them in consultation, at Columbia, ou the 2d April ne.xt, and that a dc?ogntiou of twenty be appointed by the Cliair? mau of this meeting, to reprisent this District on that occasion. Resolved, That we earnestly recom? mend all Demoerats, who ave not disfranchised, to register their names, in order that they may exercise the privilege of voting at the next elec? tion. Resolved, That a meeting of tho delegates of the different Democratic Clubs bo held at this placo, on sale day next, to receive the report of tho delegates to Columbia. On motion of Mr. Burt, tho reso? lutions were submitted to the meet? ing as a whole, and were unanimously adopted.
