them notice when the conspirators
approached to light the fuse by
throwing a white ball over the wall,
whereupon the police were'to seize
the guilty partios. Oa the night be?
fore the explosion, a cask of powder
was seen in the street; but as no at?
tempt was made to blow hp the wall
that night, the preconcerted signal
was not giveu. Tho powder was al?
lowed to remain/and uo arrests were
made. The police supposed the exe?
cution of the plot was postponed tc
tho following evening, and were oil
vii cir guard when tho explosion took
place unexpectedly during tho day.
