human likeness about it so real as to
be easily recognised:
Some timo ago, thero lived in
Edinburg, a woll-kuown grumbler
Jaamed Sandy Black, whose ofton-re
curring fits of spleen, or indigestion
produced some' amusing scene? of
senseless irritability, which were
highly relished by all except the
brute's good, patient little wife. Ono
morning, Sandy arose, bent on a
quarrel. The baddies and eggs wero
excellent, doue to a turn, and had
. been ordered by himself the previous
eveniug; and breakfast passed with?
out tho looked-for cause of complaint.
..What will you have for dinner,
Sandy?" said Mrs. Black.
'' "A chicken, madam," said her hus?
band.
"Boast or boiled?" asked the wife.
"Confound it, inndam, if you had
been a good aud. considerate wife,
>you'd have kuown before this, what I
I liked," Sandy growled out, and ;
slamming tho door behind him, loft
the house" It was in tho spring,
and a friend who was present heard
the little wife say :
''Sandy's bent on a disturbance to?

At that iustant, n broiled chicken,
with mushrooms, was placed on the
table.
"Without green peas!" roared tho \
grumbler.
"Hero they aro, dear," said Mrs.
Black:

"They were a present," said tho
wife, interrupting him.
Rising from his chair,"und rushing
from tho room, amidst a roar of
laughter from his friend, ho clenched
his fist and shouted:
