DISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH.-From
tables lately published by the Statis?
tical Society of Loudon, it appears
that 7,084 persons in Qreat Bri?
tain return incomes to the aggregate
amount of ?12,6-0,000-one-Beventh
of the entire amount returned, and
one-fourth of the total yearly income
derived from property in Qreat Bri?
tain. Only 47,56- persone return
incomes exceeding ?1,000 a year,
1,860,000 return incomes less than
?800. The number of persons who
own more than ten acres of land
apiece is but 32,000.
.The United States Commissioner of
Internal Bevenue reports that the
number of persons in this country
whose income tax last year was less
than $20 was 63,085; of those -Those
tax was between $20 and $50, 42,947;
between $50 and $100, 28,936; be?
tween $100 and $500, 54,778; of those
whose tax was more than $500,
50,388. The number of assessed,
persons' incomes. so small as tobe
exempt from the tax was 220,036.
The returns from some collection
districts had not been received at the
time the report was published. As
the tax is five per cent, on all incomes
over $1,000, a tax of $20 indicates a
total income of $1,400; a tax of $50
indicates a total inoome of $2,000; a
tax of $100 indicates a total income
of $3,000, and a tax of $50 indicates
a total income of $11,000. The re?
ceipts from incomes exceeding $5,000
were considerably lees than one-half
of tho total receipts.
