? A FEAT OF EKanrEHEiNQ.-We are
informed that the building of the
4 iron bridge over the Great Miami, on
. the Ohio and Mississippi Railroad, is
considered a rapid feat bf railroad
construct ion. This structure requir?
ed the driving of 3,000 piles, the lny
1 ing of 0,200 cubic yards of masonry,
the dredging of four difficult founda?
tions in a quicksand, and the con?
struction and erection of 630 feet of
iron bridge in three spans, and
weighing 1,100,000 pounds. The
first train crossed ou the 15th of De?
cember lost-just 120 days from the
time the first pile was driven, and
" nine days and four hours from the
time the last stone was pot in place.
. The work was carried on night and
day, and telegraphic communication
kept np throughout the whole of tho
basin drained by the Miami, so that
all storms were prepared for hours
before they or their effects reached
the bridge site. The stone for the
mason work, whioh is all first-class
ashlar, was quarried 52 miles from
the bridge.. The truss is the iron
Fink truss, and consists of three
spans 210 feet each.
The Woodford (111.) Journal says
at Mount Zion church, in that Coun?
ty, there were present last Sunday
no less than a dozen brides and
bridegrooms, six couples, all "bran
new."
