Ir. tba Convention to-day, there were several interesting debates between the' colored delegates on measure of re? lief for the people. It was urged on one hand by the extremists, that the whites owning property about to be saorificev at sheriff's salo, ought to suffer by reason of participation in the war; OD the other hand, that, eales would be mnde to speculators and strangers, who would hold the property at exorbitant rates, forbid? ding the development of enterprise. The colored race, feeling that they are in the majority, evidently desire to protect all classes from ruin, until the Legislature can adopt a perma? nent Hollomo of relief. RALEIGH, January 24.-The Con? vention showed, on yesterday, a dis-' position to go Into general legisla? tion. Numerous resolutions on various subjects were presented and referred. A resolution was present? ed, authorizing County Boards pf Registration to disfranchise all citi? zens who engaged in the rebellion, or who gave aid and comfort. A committee was appointed to confer with Geo. Cunby. A communication was received from Gov. Worth, stat? ing that he had nothing to communi? cate, but was ready to furnish any information in his possession. To? day, a resolution was passed, calling on the Treasurer, on the warrant of the President of the Convention, to pay the per diem and mileage of members. ATLANTA, January 24.-The Con? vention was bnsily employed discuss? ing when and how members were to receive their pay. TALLAHASSEE, January 24.-The Convention disc usa ed the question of privileges and some time was taken relative to misrepresentations by the press. Congressional. WASHINGTON, January 24.-lu the House, the bill forbidding certain payments to Southern claimants was discussed, and the House disagreed to the Conference Committee's re? port on the cotton tax, ?nd appointed a new Committee. The death ot" Mr. Hise was announced, and the Honse adjourned. In the Senate, Edmunds and John? son took issue with the President's opinion, relative to the bill striking ff white" from the District Ordi naniWLj The message was referred to tho -^Judiciary Committee. The Senate adhered to its amendments to thu deficiency bill, forbidding appro? priations for tho Quartermaster's De? partment being expended for recon? struction, or any other purpose. Gen. Ho ward was called on for elabo? rate reports regarding abandoned lands and other relative matters. A joint resolution, authorizing the distribution of dessicated meats and vegetables not needed by the army to sufferers in the South, passed. The reconstruction bill was resumed. Mr. John Henry, of Charlotte, ; Virginia, the last survivor, save one, of the children of Patrick Henry, and the owner of the old family seat and bnrial place of the great orator, died at his residence at Bed Hill, on the 7th inst., in the 72d yenr of his age, of paralysis.
