THE WADMALAW ISLAND Dimcuir .rr.-We "learn from a friend, who leftEdisto yesterday, that the freed? men on John's, Wadmalaw and Edisto Islands are extremely demo? ralized, and are almost useless as working nanda. Promises were made by Chamberlain and others of forty acres of land end. A mule, if they voted the red tioket, and threatening ? them with a return tb slavery in case they disobeyed. The passions of the deluded negroes were at once aroused, and but for the prompt action of the authorities, some difficulty might have occurred.. At present,, the islands are perfectly quiet, but the negroes are very unsettled and use? less, though no fears ar? entertained of another outbreak. IChdtleslon Neuis. AARON LOGAN.-Our reader ? will remember that some time ago wo pub? lished along article, copied from the Charleston Mercury, giving an ac? count of the outrageous conduct of a freedman named Aaron Logan, in u?lavr?a?y arresting and taking to Charleston, by night, a white man named J. S. Frazer. This Aaron Logan, weare happy to learn through the Charleston Courier, has been tried by a milit ary commission, which convicted him of nearly all the charges and sentenced h im to six month's imprisonment at hard labor, . nt Fort Macon, North Carolina.
