WAKNTNO TO THE BASK-BALL-MAD.
The deaths from base ball violence
number about one per month. The
last fatal casualty of this nature oc?
curred in Ottawa, Illinois. Henry
Goudole, aged fourteen, while mak?
ing a home run, was struck by a ball
in his groin, bat under the excite?
ment of the moment, was uncon?
scious of having been hort. At tea,
however, he felt some pain, and on
going to Turner Htll, in the even-1
ing, felt so much pain and depres?
sion, that he took no part in the!
exercises. Sunday the pain grew
worse, and a physician was called,
who left a prescription. On Monday
he took to bis bed, the symptoms in?
dicating an internal rupture. He
lingered until Monday evening, when,
in spite of the utmost exertions of |
medical skill, he died.
CRINOLINE.-Crinoline bas gradu?
ally grown beautifully less until it is |
as small as can possibly be worn.
The standard akirt for ordinary toilet
measures only two yards round the
bottom, and those for ceremonious
occasions only three yards; which, of
course, affords but little assistance in
managing a train.
Under-skirts. even those of fine
muslin, should be gored. Any
gathers abont the hips spoil the effect
of the gored dress. The Boulevard
skirt, made of felt, entirely seamless I
and shaped on a frame, is an im- j
provement on the full Balmoral.
Bennett has a poor opinion of the
Southern Solons. He thus sneers at
their Conventions: "As they will be
all radical, and considerably mixed. I

to 'play such fantastic tricks before !

weep* and the Northern Democracy
rejoice. After the tragedy comes the
farce."
The Mobile Times says that the
Texas negroes will work neither for
love nor money, and the crops are
rotting in the ground.

ground, and thinks it doubled his crop. I
used it on corn. It answered finely, and
was thought by the hand that cultivated
the crop to bo fully equal to Rhode's Super
Pbosphato. I alBO unod it on about an
acre of cotton, and I am clearly of opinion
that it is the best and cheapest fertilizer
in use, and I expect to order eeveral tons
