The New Orleans Picayune says:
"Wo regret to hear it said that some
planters in the rioher portions of
this State and Mississippi, purpose
to give up planting and removing
either to some city or go abroad.
The reason is that they cannot hope
to secure labor enough to carry on
their plantations to any large extent,
and that the insolence and exactions
of the freedmen make life there quito
unpleasant."
Tho servant girls, of Troy, N. Y.,
held a monster moss meeting, Satur?
day night, to protest against any
further demand for money for the
Fenians. They passed resolutions
severely denouncing the manner in
which previous contributions had
been expended, and question the
propriety of attempting to liberate
Ireland ny subjugating Canada.
