THAT MTJUK BATIT.-^-A brief para? graph waa mentioned the other day ?bout two woruon living on a dairy farm, who were in tho habit of taking milk baths and afterwards selling the milk. A correspondent of the New York Evening News tells the story: "Near the outskirts of the city of Brooklyn lived a man and wife, who keep a large number of cows; the mau serving tho milk to his custom? ers overy morning. It is not swill milk, for they havo largo pasture grounds, and in the winter tho cows are fed on dry feed. They have earned ft good reputation ns dealers in pure milk, and the man has more customers than he can supply. Tho wife is a fine-looking woman, about twenty-five yenrs of age, though she looks to bo much younger, and she has the finest complexion that it was ever my fortuno to see. They have living with them a /voting girl, who is good looking, and hut tho same clear? ness of complexion ns the mistress, i I should say that sho is moro of a companion than servant, eating her meals with them, and in every re? spect is treivted as one of the family. Both of these women have fine figures, and, ns I before said, re? markably transparent complexions. Tho neighbors have it that they owe it to the large quantity of pure milk they drink. They are the envy of all the ladies for miles around. Being a frequent visitor at the house, I had observed tho husband, when tho milk wns brought in, taking several pnilsfull up stairs, when his wife would disappear for about an Jiour, \^id the milk be brought down stairs i put in the cans ready for serving to customers in the morning. I thought nothing moro of the mutter, further than supposing that there was a little innocent doctoring going on. "Ono Sunday evening I called, it was just before dusk, and I knocked as usual at tho door, but no one came; so I strolled into the garden, nnd asl passed tho kitchen door, I tried tho latch. To my surprise, the door opened. This is strange, thought I; they have either fallen asleep, or i gone out and forgot to fasten tho door. I entered, but there was no one in the kitchen. From there, I passed to tho dining room and parlor, but still there was no one to bo seen. So I passed into tho hall. The front door wns locked on the insido, and ns I had never known-thorn to be asleep at this timo of day, I thought it very .strange; so I sat down in tho hail and took up a paper which was there, and my eye soon fell upon a para? graph giving un account of a horrible murder which hud been committed upon a whole family. Good heavens, thought I, what if they should all be up stairs murdered in their beds! So up stairs I rushed, opened tho first door that carno to hand, and beheld, ye gods! such a sight as I never be? fore witnessed. As tho door opened, I beheld the young woman beforo spoken of in a bath tub fast asleep, her head hoing supported by a strap.' Sho was in a bath of milk! Here was the mystery of the fine complexion of mistress und muid, ns also of the carrying up and down stairs of tho milk. They wero in tho habit of taking a daily bath of warm milk, fresh from the cow, and, in order not to waste it, selling the samo milk to their customers. GRIN OP THE RADICALS.-Tho politicul excitement of the pnst week is be? ginning to subside. The radicals here, generally speaking, seem to be a little disappointed with the late movements of General Qrnnt. They do not, however, blame the General for the course be bas taken, but blame the incompleteness of tho reconstruction acts. They claim that if tbo acts in question do not explicitly confer upon the Gene? ral-in-Chief full powers for their exe? cution, such were evidently the in? tentions of Congress; but as General Grant cannot base his actions upon the intentions of Congress, be is in a fair way to lose the distinguished office of standard-bearor for tho rad? ical party.-New York Herald. The President's Amnesty Proclama? tion is expected iu a few days. It is not to that that the country will object; there is no general wish to punish by fine, imprisonment, or death, any mau for taking part i u the rebellion. But no opinion of Stan bery or Binckley can repeal tho law which declares that no Executive pardon shall entitle disfranchised rebels to vole. It may bc well to limit the disfranchisement-to give the ballot to classes now deprived of it; but this must bo the act of Con? gress.-New York Tribune. The negroes bad a graud mooting and torch-light procession, at Baton Rouge, on Saturday night. Ono of tho transparencies boro upon it a painted representation of a spoon, with the motto, "One that lintier did not take." A queer motto in a radical procession. Langston, the Ohio negro, to whom the President offered the Coni missicuevship of tho Freedmen's Bureau, has been to seo Grant about taking it. Grant thought it "inex? pedient," and advised him not to accept. The consul at Messina estimates tho cholera deaths since July nt U.000. The disease seoras to bo spreading wider, but is abating iu fatality. Dr. Wm. Hall, nu old citizen of Charleston, died on thc 1th.
