A city called Cheyenne has been
laid out on the line of the Union
Pacific Railroad of the Platte, which,
it is supposed, will be the metropolis
of the more Northern Plains. It is
located on Crow Creek, twenty-five
miles below the Rocky Mountains,
at the base of the Black Hills, on
the head waters of the Platte. This
is the railroad company's town-a
second Altuona-where they intend
putting up foundries, machine shops,
etc., to cost $1,000,000. The lots
sell for from $200 to $600, and seve?
ral hundred have arcady been Bold.
Advices from Nicaragua state that
the ravages of -the cholera have been
distressing. 791 deaths are reported
in the district of Leon. Whole
villages on the North coast were
swept away. Cases along the transit
route seem to be sporadic, but evefi
this alarming epidemic had passed
into Costa Rica, where 200 ranches
among the Mosquito Iudians were
stripped of inhabitants.
