A new method of improving the
roads has been projected in England.
It is proposed to lay two pairs of
nearly flat rails, with a slight depres?
sion in each rail, so that wagon
wheels will keep tho track; and also
to lay a guide-rail in the middlo of
each track for the driver to sight with
the polo of his carriago, so as to bo
able to keep the wheels in the depres?
sion. This system, it is claimed, will
materially lesson tho power necessary
to draw heavily-ladon wagons.
A writer, speaking of Paris as it is
in 18G7, says: Tho miracle of the
marriage in Cana is renewed overy
day in tho restaurants. They not only
turn water into wine, but sea-dogs
into turbot, geese into pheasants and
turnips into pine apples. No one eau
