docks, though many of them were

along Main street, to see Mr. Davis
as he passed up, after the proeession
entered that street. He occupies the
same suite of rooms at tho Spotswood
that ho did in 1865. It is the opi?
nion expressed by one of Mr. Davis'
counsel that, if bail is refused him,
the Executive will .intervene to pre?
vent his further confinement, until
his trial cornels off.

AN IMPORTANT PUBLICATION.-It ia
stated that tho rules and regulations
of tho Supreme Court relative to tho
bankrupt law, will appear in the form
of a manual practice for tho use of
registers and attorneys, similar in
character to the existing manual 'for
equity practice. The document will
be n book of two hundred pages,
made up chiefly of forms. Tho first
part is now going through the press,,
copy being supplied as the Supreme
Court finds time for preparing it. A
strong effort is making to complete
tho work, so that it can be submitted
to the full bench, for approval or re?
jection, by the middle of May.
A bit of sharp practice has been
going on at Hudson, New York. A
man contracted to purchase a farm.
Tho "forfeit" was $500. A few weeks
subsequent to this transaction, a
third party carno and offered the
original owner an advance of $1,500
for tho farm. The seller "backed
water" and paid tho forfeit, when
purchaser number two "didn't want
to buy." Several parties have been
duped in tho same manner within a
short time.
SIGNIFICANT.-There is a general
cry by tho laboring classes in all the
Northern and Western cities for
bread and employment. Tho Boston
Herald estimates that over 2,000 men
have been thrown out of employ?
ment by thc closing of tho bar-rooms
in that city, and at least 500 stores in
the city proper, and East and South
Boston, have a "to let" placed ou the
shutters.
RESTITUTION.-During the war,
some of the soldiers stationed ut
Pensacola, Fla., went into tho Epis?
copal Church and destroyed the
organ. Thc Observer says a subscrip?
tion was recently taken up ill ono of
tho Northern cities, and a new organ
purchased and sent out to replace the
ono destroyed.
