"To relieve tho State of Louisiana
of the incubus of the quarrel now i
existing between the Governor and
tho Legislature, as to which political
party shall have the disbursement of
of tho $4,000,000 of levee bonds au?
thorized by the last Legislature, and
in order to have the money distri?
buted to tho best interests of the
overflowed districts, all existing or
pretended boards of the levee com?
mission are hereby abolished." Gen.
Sheridan makes other appointments
to fill tho vacancies thus created.

INTERNAL REVENUE OFFICE.-A cir?
cular has been issued from the office
of internal revenue, concerning the
tax of ton per cent, on the notes of
any town, city or municipal corpora?
tion, which isas follows:
"Tho second section of the Act of
March 26, 1867, onacts: 'That every
national banking association, State
bank or banker or association shall
pay a tax of ton per centum on tho
amount of notes of any town or
municipal co* oration paid out by
them after th jt day of May, 1867,
to bo collected in the mode and man?
ner in which tho tax on tho notes of
State banks is collected. ' It is under?
stood that there is n large amount of
these notes iQ circulation, particularly
in the Southern States, and tho at?
tention of revenue officers is hereby
called to the foregoing section. As?
sessors will instruct their assistants
to make assessments for said tax
against any national banking associa?
tion, State bank, banker or ossocia
tt?ou, which shall pay the notes in
question, after the 1st day of May,
1867."
