DIVORCE OASES.-Since the organi?
zation of tho present Supreme Court
of the District of Columbia there has
been commenced 125 suits for divorce,
of which number the applications in
nineteen cases have been granted
and about fifteen dismissed. Of those
remaining on the docket, somo are
''hanging," because of the partied
having gono together again or the
casca have been abandoned. In one
or two instances parties have petition?
ed two or three times for a divorce,
and then asked its dismissal.
A child, three and a half years old,
is at present confined in Richmond
Bridewell, Dublin, (tho same from
which James Stephens escaped,) serv?
ing out a sentence of fourteen days'
imprison r ant and hard labor-for
the crime of soliciting alms! Proba?
bly thc child was hungry when it
begged.
CHILDREN IN PHILADELPHIA.-The
enumeration of children in Philadel?
phia, mado by tho police, shows tho
following results: Boys 70,674; girls
71,843-total-142,514. In public
schools 76,419. In primate schools
12,709. In parochial schools 11,863.
At regular employment 20,902. Not
at school or employment 20,534.
A farmer in Vermont recently made
from forty-two feet of a tree which
grew upon his farm, shingles enough
to cover a thirty by forty feet barn ;
from the next two cuts, ho obtained
500 feet of boards, and from the top
of tho tree he got two cords of wood.
. Seven feet of the butt was wasto.
A. T. Stewart's dry goods establish?
ment on Broadway, at the cornor of
.ifenth street, is to bo enlarged to
about six times its present size. It
will extend through to Fourth
avenue, and will cover an area of
an acre and a quarter of ground.

Cuba is said to be favorable to the
slave trade, and since his accession to
power 6,000 Africans have been land?
ed on tho island.
Over 2,000 men hnvo been thrown
out of employment in Boston by the
prohibitory law, and 500 stores aro

California produced $200,000 worth
of strawberries last year.
